A History:

Little Falls Presbyterian Church

Although Little Falls has the newest Presbyterian church building in Berkeley County , constructed in the 1950’s, 1960’s, and1970’s, the roots of the congregation’s founding go back to the Nineteenth Century.

Land in Falling Waters was donated in 1892 to the Christ Reformed Church, and a small church was built, where services were held more or less continuously until 1938. Then the church and land were deeded to Bethany Presbyterian Church to use as a chapel for members in the Falling Waters area.

After World War II, population grew as did attendance at the chapel. The new Little Falls Presbyterian Church was formally organized in 1953, with recognition by the Winchester Presbytery.

With donated land, Little Falls started building a new church in 1954. Funds were short, so that the members worked as their own contractors—evenings, Saturdays and holidays, rain or shine. The finished building was dedicated on August 4, 1957 . Again, with much volunteer labor, a new education wing was built, and it was dedicated on June 28, 1970.

Little Falls church remained yoked with the Bethany Presbyterian Church (no longer in existence) and shared pastors with that congregation from its inception in 1953 until 1981, when Little Falls issued a call to a pastor on its own.

Since the mid-90’s, the church has shared a pastor with Hedgesville Presbyterian Church.
In 2004, Rev. Carl Howard was installed as pastor for both Little Falls and Hedgesville churches.
